DISCIPLESHIP

Discipleship

What Is One-on-One Discipleship?

There are several methods that we employ to fulfill our mission to "Know Christ and to Make Him Known to Successive Generations".  One is our weekly group bible study. We meet weekly as a group or body for worship with song, prayer, and teaching from the Bible.   We regularly spend time on the campus doing evangelism; sharing our faith with non-believers.

However, the heart of our ministry is to disciple students in one to one or LIfe on Life meetings.  We meet individually with students on a weekly basis teaching them to know Christ through spending time in the Bible, reading it, studying it, memorizing the scripture, and applying biblical principles and teaching to their lives.  As students mature we teach them to reproduce what they have learned in the life of a younger student.

We proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom that we may present every man complete in Christ. Colossians 1:28

For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son.... Romans 8:29

The purpose of our ministry is that every person is complete ie. conformed into the image of Christ.  At Life on Life we believe The most effective way for us to be conformed into the image of Christ is through Life on Life discipleship

How To Memorize A Verse Effectively

GUIDELINES FOR MEMORIZING A VERSE OF SCRIPTURE

1.Before you start to memorize the verse, read it aloud several times.

2. Learn topic, reference, and the first phrase as a unit.

3. After you have reviewed the topic, reference, and first phrase a few times, add the second phrase. Gradually add phrases until you know the whole verse.

4. Work on the verse audibly whenever possible.

5. As you memorize and review the verse, think about how it applies to your life.

6. Always review the verse in this sequence:

 TOPIC  :  “Assurance of Salvation”

 REFERENCE: “First John 5:11-12

VERSE:  “And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life,

 and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life;

he who does not have the Son of God does not have life”

 REFERENCE: “First John 5:11-12

7a. The most critical element in scripture memory is REVIEW, REVIEW,

REVIEW. The most important time to review a verse repeatedly is

right after you can quote the whole verse (topic, reference, verse,

reference) without making a mistake. Review the verse a minimum of

once daily after that, preferably several times a day. The more you

           review the greater your retention

7b .The most important concept is the principle of OVERLEARNING. A

verse should not be considered memorized simply at the point when

we can quote it accurately. Only when we have reviewed it frequently

enough for it to become ingrained in our memory should we

          consider a verse memorized.

Spending Time With God

How To Have A Quiet Time

 What is a Quiet Time

  1. It is an unhurried time of Bible reading and prayer.
  2. It is the heart of your fellowship with God.

Why Have a Quiet Time

  1. Growth and Nourishment. Food and proper nutrition are essential to healthy physical growth. In the same way, consistent intake of God’s Word causes spiritual growth and nourishment. Summarize what the following verses say about spiritual growth.

       1 Peter 2:2 ________________________________________________________

        Psalm 119:103 ____________________________________________________

        Jeremiah 15:16 _____________________________________________________

        Hebrews 5:12-14 ___________________________________________________

   2. For Vital Companionship With Jesus Christ

Summarize what the following verses say about companionship with

        Jesus Christ

       1 Corinthians 1:9 ___________________________________________________

       John 15:4 _________________________________________________________

       Micah 6:8 _________________________________________________________

       Psalm 16:11 _______________________________________________________

Where to Read in Your Bible

  1. If reading the Bible is fairly new to you, you should start with books in the New Testament.

   2. Finish reading all of one book before starting another.

   3. Perhaps the two most difficult books in the Bible are Leviticus and

Revelations. Put off reading these two books until after you are quite

       comfortable with reading scripture.

   4. Instead of reading the Gospels consecutively, intersperse them with

       other books for variety.

   5. When you are ready to begin reading in the Old Testament, you might

pick one of the following books: Joshua, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings,

       2 Kings, Genesis, Daniel.

   6. Some Old Testament books have difficult passages, so just skim

       through those sections.

When and Where to Have a Quiet Time

1.You need a time that is planned just like your regular activities during the week.

   2. You need a place that is free from distractions. If possible use the same place everyday.

How to Have a Quiet Time

  1. Begin asking and expecting God to SPEAK to you. During your quiet time, expect God to speak to you. Jeremiah 33:3 is God’s phone number. He say, “Call to me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things which you do not know”. (nasb) The acrostic

S-P-E-A-K is a way of helping you know what to look for when you are

       reading.

     S – Sin to confess

     P – Promise to claim

E – Error to avoid or Example to follow

A – Action to take or Attitude to change

K – Knowledge of Christ or God

  1. Read until something stands out to you. Don’t read for quantity but for quality.

   2. Look for promises to claim, examples to follow, actions to

       take, errors to avoid, etc.

   3. When God speaks to you stop and pray back to God, converse with

Him on how that passage applies to your life.

 Three Steps To Meaningful Reading

Observation, read the passage and sees what it says

Interpretation, ask God what the passage means

Application, find out how you can apply it to your life
